Its been a while since I updated my blog have some interesting ones coming up on posture and nutrition. Been really busy sorting out the two clinics in Bristol. Since March I have been working from both the Clifton branch and The Beauty Clinic in Staple Hill serving South Gloucestershire and North Bristol. Come in and say hello! 37 High Street, Staple Hill, BS16 5HD.
When searching for a chiropractor a good way is ask your friends! They can share their own experiences of using a chiropractor and help you choose.
Look at chiropractors websites and see if there are any testimonials, also have a look at review sites such as www.bristolcompany.co.uk and google reviews to get an idea of peoples experience with a particular chiropractor.
It is very important to check whether your chiropractor is registered with the GCC (General Chiropractic Council). This is the regulatory body that all chiropractors must be registered with to be able to call themselves a chiropractor. To call yourself a chiropractor without being registered is a criminal offense. It is easy to check this for yourself by accessing the General Chiropractic Association website register here. Just input the chiropractors details into the search box and it will show you whether and where they are registered.
Another factor you may wish to consider is with which association are they registered with. There are 4 in the UK; the British Chiropractic Associated (BCA),the United Chiropractic Association (UCA), the McTimoney Chiropractic Association (MCA) andthe Scottish Chiropractic Association (SCA).
This choice will tell you a bit about the philosophy of the chiropractor.
BCA registered chiropractors follow evidence informed practice utilizing techniques supported by current research where practical. They are more likely to reject the original chiropractic belief in the sublaxation complex although some may still follow it. They work around improving posture and alignment accepting a functional approach to spinal health.
UCA chiropractors are more likely to follow subluxation complex belief that where there is misalignment of the spinal bones the innate intelligence of the body transmitted via the spinal nerves is impeded and this reduces the quality of overall physical health.
McTimoney chiropractors are trained using techniques that are lighter and they consider that the body benefits from having periodic chiropractic treatments on a preventative basis so that incipient problems may be avoided.
SCA chiropractors are similar to UCA chiropractors and in fact are not just in Scotland but anywhere in the UK.
